Re: Scooters 101?

Anybody know anything about the Honda Metropolitan? Got a line on a used one for $800.

Thanks

Found out today from the dealer, that it has about 12,000 miles on it. Asked about condition, dealer just chuckled and said, "it runs". Nuff said and probably a testament on the general condition of used scooters, as other's have stated in this thread.

Currrently looking at New Honda Metropolitans or Yamaha C3. Looks like around $2,000 is about the magic number :(

We will probably using scooters long term, unless gas drops back to $2.50 soon, so paying $500 less for a knock-off may not work long-term.

Plus, we life about 11 miles from town, so the scooter will be getting a good workout.

Picked up a 07' Yamaha C3 this weekend ;)

Pickings are slim for scooters, in our area. My dealer has just a handful left.

Some dealers are out or almost out until spring. One name-brand dealer said they will sell Chinese models, because that is all that they can get.

For those of you who don't know, that's a 50cc 4 stroke fuel injected (I think) scooter. Top speed of about 35 or so. Fuel mileage about 100mpg. It looks a bit like an ice chest on wheels.

Yep, I have a motorized cooler that looks like that! LOL!

Seriously, congrats on your purchase, and hope you have many years of good service with it. I will stick with my Kawasaki Crotch Rocket, cuz I like going fast and getting up to speed quickly, but can't complain about the added the fuel mileage of the scooters. Very interesting thread.

How about something different, a Honda Ruckus maybe?

... oversized twin headlights, bare-bones (naked bike) frame ...

... or the hot trend machine in Europe, a Honda Monkey (Trail 50, Z50M), back to the past ...

... with the fold down bars it is great to throw in the trunk of the car. We used to always take one with us on the boat for running around the islands, and quick trips onshore for replenishing the refreshment reserves.

We looked at the Rukus also. Nice scooter, but a bit spartan, with no enclosed storage. Also still carburated, as fuel inhjection seems like a good idea.

Nice to see the Honda 50 again. The our scooter dealer has one of the originals, up on display. Brought back bad memories of the rich neighbor kid, who had one, that we hoodlums, were not allowed to ride. :(

What's up with the plaid seat?

The Yamaha C3 is a great scooter. Well built and does 40MPH out of the box.

My 15 year old kid is so lucky (even if he does not know it). When I was his age, I commuted to town on a Schwinn Collegiate bicycle ( but it did have a light).

Now I need me a motorcycle ;)
