WOO HOO!!! Finally the good guys win one...

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/health/bal-chemo0223,0,7856129.story

Remember that health net scandall where the insurance company paid bonuses to their employees to cancel insurance policies of people who were using more than they were paying... by finding any reason, such as in this case, saying that the woman weighed 5 lbs more than she claimed on the policy....

Well they just got their butts handed to them in arbitration of one case, 9 mil... and since it was arbitration, they don't have the option to fight it in court for the rest of her life, they actually have to pay up...

This was one, there's 1,599 more cases of the 1,600 to get their behinds handed to them on. It was such a blow to them, that they put a freeze on cancelling any policies... by the time this is all said and done, all our health insurance companies will be treating us just a little bit better.

Speaking of insurance,I received a letter a few weeks ago from a former employer. They had been charging employees more than they should have for health insurance. Some employee found out and now the company has to pay up.A major lawsuit has been put against the company. The total suit was for about 19 million bucks. The have thousands of employees. In the end i will get about 2 grand. My nephew still works there and he will get about 5 grand.
Too bad i can't say the name of the company...
But anyway i feel the bad guy lost in this case!:D

mmmmm,2k will buy some boat gas!!!;)

Saw this on the news yesterday - yup, score one for the good guy/gal.

I'm not ready to say all insurance companies are bad but many of them sure do seem to abuse their insureds. My own mother died of breast cancer about ten years ago. She had an HMO and they did not want to pay for an oncologist surgeon to remove a large tumor from deep within her breast tissue. Instead, she had to have a general surgeon do it. After the surgery, radiation and chemo treatment, she was pronounced in remission. Not long after that, the cancer came back and she spent the next five years fighting it. I can't say for sure that an onocologist surgeon would have gotten all of the cancerous mass the first time but, as one that I am acquainted with said, they have special skills that help do a better job getting all of the tumor. I think that once something has happened, you have to accept it and move on, but I would be less than honest if I didn't admit that I sometimes wonder how much longer she would have lived, if the insurance company wasn't trying to save money on her treatment.

Another one that we have seen here in New Orleans since Katrina is insurance companies dropping homeowners coverage. The state of Louisiana passed a law prior to the hurricane that prevented insurance companies from dropping anyone who had been with them for more than three years, except for the usual and standard reasons, such as nonpayment of premiums, gross negligence, etc. But, what some companies did at any time a homeowner wanted to change something on a policy, was to place the "new" insurance with a subsidiary company. After Katrina, they dropped thousands of their insureds who had made adjustments less than three years before the storm, claiming that the policies were with a different company. In one case, a homeowner merely raised his limits for wind and hail coverage with Allstate in 2004. Although he had been an Allstate customer for 31 years and had never submitted a claim, the company said that his policy was less than three years old and they dropped him. And, because many insurance companies will no longer "write" new customers in south Louisiana, he had to purchase insurance from the Lousiana Citizens Property Insurance Corp, which has more expensive premiums.

I recently received an invitation from Allstate to purchase auto insurance from them. The signature on the letter is from the company's V.P. of Marketing. She will soon be getting a letter from me that pretty much says that it will be a cold day in hell before I purchase any insurance product from Allstate. In the bigger scheme of things, the few hundred dollars that I would pay for auto insurance means little to Allstate, but I want them to know that their actions have cost them something. Hopefully, others here have or will write similar letters.

Yeah, There was another recent story about how a different insurer denied a liver transplant to a teenage girl, then later approved it... after she was dead. Anyway, they actually responded to reporters, and in the response the V.P. was actually BRAGGING that they "ONLY" kill 1 out of every 10 of their policy holders that require organ transplants by denying coverage. It happened to be Cigna whom the company I work for uses. I sent a letter to the V.P. of H.R. with the story and quote, and requesting that we change insurer's next enrollment term (hasn't come around to the next term yet, so we'll see). If they lose our business, they'll loose millions.
