Every internal combustion engine produces more HP output via spark advance...period! That is the reason we all do the lync and sync on our engines in the first place. But an advanced sparked engine is really really hard to start. So they retard the spark timing to help start engines and then advance the spark to track the RPM’s to get that HP output. The flame front is a totally predictable constant and therefore you can tailor the advance for any given RPM range to take advantage of it. Some new engines actually use computers to track pre-ignition (with knock sensors) and tailor the spark advance to get the most out of the engine at any RPM without pre-ignition and that nasty and dangerous knock. Using a higher octane fuel allows an increase in spark advancement before pre-ignition starts...period. So while he could use a higher octane fuel and get a little more HP (if he advances his timing to take advantage of it), whether that will be noticeable or even useable or not is the question and only he will know for certain...

I stand among the ranks of people saying high octane gas in a engine that is not high compression.......is a waste....PERIOD...
Barely noticable performance....or performance that you can't even distinquish....doesn't count as worth it to me...period.
