Scuppers/deck drain

I am doing a complete gut on my 21' Sangster hardtop. There was a notch in the engine box near the transom on the starboard side of the boat. Looking at my photos, I can't quite figure out what the purpose of it was. Any one know if it is needed? I think it may be clearance for the trim pump.
It also seems that deck water just found its way into the bilge past the engine dog house lip. What are some good solutions to allow deck water into the bilge to be pumped out?
Thanks

Re: Scuppers/deck drain

i comox......welcome to iboats.

the notch is because someone replaced the transom...just the sood around the keyhole....the notched out the motor cage to get the new transom wood in....

if you look at the key hole.....it is not stock....but rather rounded....as well the notch is cut into the nautolux flooring.....
that is s hack job.

why the full gut tho?....are the strings rot?
as far as the water finding its way into the bilge.....we would need to see pics of the set up before we could comment.

but the standard is to leave spaces for standing deck water to drain to the back....and into the bilge.

Re: Scuppers/deck drain

Full gut most definitely needed, deck pretty rotten on one side, and stringers underneath totally pooched too. Transom rotten in one spot, couldn't see the point in trying to save bits and pieces so it is stripped to bare hull. I would imagine the simple solution to getting deck rainwater into the bilge is just to leave some slots or openings that allow water to drain to the bilge. I was wondering about using something like a shower drain and piping, but this may be more work to accomplish the same end result.
