Just got a HB 898c si, and I was wondering what the maximum capacity is for the MMC/SD card. I cannot find it listed in the manual or the website.

Thanks!

Re: SD card maximum size?

According to what I found they come is sizes clear up to 2 TB. That ought to be big enough for any depth/fish finder!
Here is a link that will provide a lot of information for you including speeds of various cards which may also be important to you.

I do not think a SD card comes in more than 2GB.
SD/HC comes up to at least 16GB.
It has got to be in the specs somwhere. If it only list SD card then likely will not handle over 2GB.

Also Lowrance in there units suggest 2 GB.

I would call HB. I know that Garmin Chart plotters don't line SD larger than 4GB for some reason. HB may have a similar limitation

Read the link I provided to the OP. They do come in extended capacity as shown by the SD Association.

I did look at your link and it also says SD up to 2GB.
Yes you can get SD/HC cards up to at least 16GB but it takes different software for SD/HC.

Re: SD card maximum size?

I've used upto 4G cards in my 798. I think I've seen discussion that it will work upto 16G, but call HB tech support to be sure. The 898 was new last year, and suspect 4G was always supported. Unless you are doing ALLOT of recordings, you would not need anything that large. For recordings, you want the fastest chips. I am currently using a 2G Extreme III, but believe there is a slightly newer (speed wise) chip you can get now.

Update: You want Extreme III professional with 30mb/sec transfer rates. A 16G is around $130 though.

BTW: Check your HB account for a new S/W release. Version 5.210 is available for most units, and coming soon for others.

Update: For your unit it is Version 5.320 and here are some of the new features: http://www.humminbird.com/FAQ.aspx?Contentid=3024
