I just received a Sea King outboard and need to figure out the year and what fuel/oil mixture to use. Model # is GG8960A and the Serial # is 75X671437. It has a 5 on the side cover so I assume it is a 5 horse.

16:1 was the original recommended fuel mix, but you can go 24:1 with modern TCW-3 marine oil.

one other question, there is a brass looking shaft coming through a hole in the cover on the shifter side. What is that for, did it have some kind of knob on it?

Re: Sea King model year help

If it has an intagral tank it is the gas shut off. It did have a little black squarish knob.
