sea pro center console with a 115 merc (all 1993) I am getting this boat from my father, he doesnt use it anymore. He was checking it out before I acme to get it and the steering is froze up can anyone tell me where i can find out what kind of steering cable is used on this boat so that i can be prepaired fo what I need to do? I read all of the posts and hopefully it wont be too bad but I see that there are different types of cables, and I didnt see anything about center consoles. oh yea it is an outboard

Gator, The steering can corrode up in several places. The most likely is where the steering cable goes thru the tilt tube on the motor. The next likely is that the motor is hard to swivel. Finally the steering cable could be bad.

Disconnect the link from the cale end to the outboard steering arm. Now swivel the motor by hand. If it moves easily, that is real good. Now loosen the big nut on the startboard side of the tilt tube. Turn the steering wheel. If the exterior of the cable moves back and forth, the cable is likely good, and the end of the cable is corroded into the tilt tube. If so, use some penetrating oil and a pipe wrench to rock the cable end back and forth. If you can get it to move at all, it will eventually loosen up. Regrease it when it is clean and moves easily.
