Flashback,

The way we use to do it on the rally cars was to run the engine at about 2000 revs (in neutral) and then pour about a litre (quart) of distilled water slowly down the carb throat. And yes, it's a steam clean for the combution chambers.

Chris.............

You could have trouble with an MPI because of the air volume sensor not measuring correctly while you have the air horn disconnected to get the water in, but in theory it would work the same.

My father said the same thing about the water when he saw me doing the decarb. He also said you can use ATF in the fuel to clean your carb and intake. Then he told me about using atf in the crank case for a couple of hours befor the oil change to clean the inside of the motor also.
I guess the ATF has a lot of detergent in it.

Don't use ATF in the crankcase....I use Rislone Engine Treatment every third oil change...follow directions. But the sludge we found in motors 20 years ago just does not exist anymore. And for those who don't use Stabil, why not? Amazed at people that think its only for lawn mowers. I need the 5 gallon size for the mass of tanks around my little slice of real estate. And I just celebrated my 25th anniversary of hitting 29!
