seal decimated in upper unit

While replacing the water hose in the pre-Alpha this weekend, I did my search in the upper unit for the o-ring for the drive shaft. While in that mode, the flexibel portion of a seal in the lower end of the driveshaft cavity fell out. I have never seen in all the instructions for replacing the impeller any reference to checking this seal. Wedged out the remaining steel portion of the seal.

Haven't been able to locate the seal in any online drawings of the upper unit. Need to know the part# and just out of curiosity what the seal seals.

Thanks in advance for your information.

Swabbie

Well swabbie,
I'm Not at all Sure just What you're Talking about..................
But,
I'll give it a Guess............................ :D

It Appears to Me that, While changing the Hose from the outdrive to the Transom, you pulled the Outdrive.......
Then you broke the outdrive down into the Upper,+ Lower units.......
While you've Read about changing the Impeller,
That's Not what we're doing.......
So, You were Looking for the O-rings that Should be on the top of the Vertical Shaft........
And this is when you Dug the Seals out of the Upper Unit.........

If by Chance, I've got this Right........
The Seals are #s 26-32511,+ 26-96503..........
I have never seen in all the instructions for replacing the impeller any reference to checking this seal.
That's Because,
You Should have been No Where Near It............

Or,
So I Think.....

Bondo that was great. I like it when you answer a post and there response is Anyone else? The advise that is given is OK but where looking for better answers. Even if the person asking the question wouldn't know the right answer if you put in there lap. (Any one Else).

Re: seal decimated in upper unit

Thanks Bondo, it's the 96503..local dealer showed me the schematic of the upper unit and there it was and got the seal today.

Sorry about the confusion. Actually did both jobs. New pump and new water hose without taking the upper unit off. As someone said earlier, like tuning the engine through the exhaust pipe.

There is a question remaining. There is a ring on the driveshaft where the old seal was. Is it ok to seat the seal a little deeper to provide a new surface to "mate" with?

Thanks,

Swabbie
