Sealing Portable gas tank fitting

Just bought a new 3 gal portable attwood fuel tank with a new thread in fitting for the hose. What is the best way to seal this fitting. The local marine guy says they use nothing since it is a pipe fitting, just snug it up. I know enough not to use tape on fuel fittings, but is it worth the $15.00 for a tube of permatex permashield fuel resistant gasket.

No don't use anything. It will self seal...after tightened correctly.
