i have notice, that craigslist here, has jumped from about 75 listings a day, to almost 125. these people are trying to get out from under these loans. i don't see it happening at the prices they are asking. probably loan balances or close.

You can almost tell the listings where the owner still owes money on their boat... quite a discrepancy in prices on some of the boats that are up for sale. Anybody trying to sell a boat at this time of year, in Minnesota anyway, needs the money, either for their loan or a snowmobile... or fish house!

I have also been watching Craigslist, and I have been disappointed in that the good deals seem rare. Like the others have said, I think the boat owners are too up-side-down on their loan to allow for good deals. It may still take another year or two for the loan balances to come down far enough to allow for some good deals.

I also suspect that there are some boat owners that have just stopped paying on their loan. Those boats won't be Craigslist because they are going back to the bank, but the market for reposed boats should be good.

Where do you find repo boats for sale? Do they usually go to some sort of public auction?

had I not found such a deal on mine over the summer, now would be the time I would be looking for a aboat. Prices "should" always be cheaper this time of year.

"yeah but with the price of oil. . ."

hehe, isn't that the excuse for all inflated prices from celery to cell phones?

Like TD, I've been checking Craigslist, too, but probably not as often. In our area, most of the boats for sale are older cheaper models. Don't get me wrong, there are also a number of newer more expensive boats, but the vast majority of the boats for sale are under $15k.

I last saw our boat salesman about 3 weeks ago and asked him how business was. He said the number of units sold was down, but their revenue was not. The entry level boats aren't selling at all, but the more expensive rigs are.

And one of the larger boat dealers in our area recently announced they are closing six stores. The remaining stores aren't doing well either. Not much of a loss in my book, however. I ended up walking out of one of their stores after getting ganged up on by two of their salesmen and a receptionist. They tried to sell me the model they had the most inventory of instead of the model I was interested in, so adios! I later learned their service department had a horrible reputation.

Sorry, kind of drifted off topic there.
