Seat question

My rig has those back to back lounger seats. I don't like sitting that low, and with a cuddy I don't think it's safe because I can't see much over the bow. So I end up alternating between standing, kneeling on the seat, and sitting on the seat back. Sitting on the seat back puts me too far away from the controls. Obviously the previous owners did this and the vinyl is torn up.

I'd like to install a true helm seat. My question is should I mount the helm seat to the box the lounge seat is on or get rid of the whole thing and go from the deck. Both are solid.

Re: Seat question

If i was in your position I would start fresh. Get a new base and put a new seat in. I have the same problem as you. I made a "custom" base for my back to back seats because the original base was too low to the ground.

I'm guessing that didn't work out very well?

Re: Seat question

My Arrow Glass was like yours. The original had an 8" base. This was needed for head room if the canopy was up. but was too low for top down operation so mostly sat on the seat back.
The new seats mostly have 10 bases that is too tall for canopy but ok for top down except for the top bar of the windshield being at eye level.

I would go with the new arrangement suggestion. You may be able to incorporate at bait well, ice chest, or fuel into the design to help save deck space.
With the lounge seats, the deck was designed for seating load to be spread over a large area. So consider using a wide pad for load distribution over the deck. Consider glassing in a mounting pad to the deck for load distribution and to screw the seat fasteners. This will save screwing directly into the deck and eliminate the chance of water intrusion to the space below.

Re: Seat question

have you looked at the I-boats seat back pads? They actually slip over your back to back seats and you end with a sitting pad on top. I'ts the least expensive way and doesn't change the original design at all, it looks similar to having one of them throwable cushions attached to top of your seats.
