Seawater Pump Rotation?

I have a used but supposedly rebuilt Jabsco DJ09201 seawater pump. I turned it and it turns in the counter-clockwise direction when looking at it from the front of the engine but doesn't seem to turn in the clockwise direction. Unless I am having brain fade, it should turn in the clockwise direction on a 5.7L gm engine when viewed from the front. I understand about putting the impellor in with a twist for correct rotation. Do these pumps work either way just by rotating the impellor in one way or the other? I will be taking it apart to confirm the recent rebuild but wanted to make sure that the pump is universal in that it can run either direction with a properly set impellor. Maybe it was built incorrectly. Thanks...

Your correct, the impeller was installed in the wrong direction. Remove and reinstall

The pump can run in either direction but it would take a reverse rotation motor for the way it is now

I don't know what this part is called but does it look like it is worn and needs to be replaced?

Yep, was installed wrong
Good thing you didn't install and fire it up, probably would have torn some blades off

Yeah, I don't like using used parts without checking them first. Anybody seen a rebuild kit for this particular pump (DJ09201) for sale anywhere?

Search for "jabsco dj09201 seawater pump rebuild kit" and several will come up

I use the Merc kit 46-807151 and replace the entire housing every 2 years
