Just as a follow up since I'm learning here. I'm still building the entire alarm on a bench in my basement. (Scared the crap out of the kids when I had them trigger the alarm :) ) The DEI 502T works great. However, it is not a latching circuit. If the alarm sounds, all you have to do is shut the door and it turns off. I could wire a relay to stay latched but instead I bought a $29 Scytek G20 C alarm to be triggered by the DEI502T closed circuit loop.

It's the cheapest alarm I've found with an external shock sensor. That way, I can eliminate the shock sensor(don't want the wakes setting it off), and use alarm outputs to turn on all the deck lights and light up the area, etc.

Most alarms are open loop (cut a wire and you'd never know). With a closed loop trigger to set off the car alarm, I can protect every item on the boat including mooring lines.

Ironically, we're having an intermittent backup charger fault at work on a fail safe, closed loop system. It just reinforces how difficult it is to bypass this type of system if you don't really know what you're doing.
