Sedation Dentistry ? Don't know what that means, unless it's what Spinner wrote? I am not a fan of the Dentist by no means, I was lucky, and found a good gentle one. He usually uses a numbing swab, then a needle to numb my jaw to work on me, I can tolerate this. I don't care for gas, or nitrous. For extractions he usually sends me to an oral surgeon, who uses a intravenous sedative something like truth serum, it puts you out, but not completely, you're awake but in another dimension,,, lol,,, you don't feel any pain, and you lose track of time, it all goes by so quick, just like you were sleeping. I had my last upper 8 teeth pulled a few yrs ago for dentures, and a couple of big front ones were broke off at the gum, I went in with some tepidation, but never felt a thing, my gum was stitched, and it was over in a flash, or so it appeared, I waited for pain, & bleeding afterwards, but there was very little of either! it was a piece of cake. Eventually I'll need the lowers done soon, but I have less fear of it now.

I do not go to them anymore.
I will sooner or later, but I am a big guy and they can not numb me.
Well, they can, but about 4 hours later and I am back home by then and all pain is gone.
Went to one my wife goes to and he shot me up and said that was all he could give me by law and like I said, back home a few hours later and my whole face was numb.
My daughter used the pill and it worked well for her.
I guess I will try that the next time.

Came back from Nam, and out the service. All Wisdom inpacted..(who started THAT moniker?)....and had all 4 pulled Army Dentist VA Hospital..(2 at a time).
Only Novocaine. Probably 20 shots worth..hard to feel my fingers!. Sat on my chest with a sledge and a chisel..wacked my head silly!
Looked like a chipmunk storing nuts for a week, and soup through a straw for food. Came back two weeks later, and said with 2 more weeks for the other 2. Still sore and beat up.
Bone up, get gas, and be prepared for "sore"...but its over with right? Run a good Internet search Doc's yer area. I grew up with two brothers, both still dentist, back in Illinois, and out here, PNW, have a terrific Hygienist, and a great Dentist....and when I moved here 14 years ago, I went through many losers, before I found real...on dental. Ask your friends and neighbors...best referral comes that way...

This is the same as I had. Greatest drug ever invented, I swear to it. You don't really go to sleep. They tell you to do the countdown thing and then you look around wondering when they are gonna do the procedure. No sickness or anything afterwards.

After I got slammed in the mouth with a sauce gun awhile back. The trip to the dentist was a pleasant one for me. I was never happier to have those needles put into my gums. I thought they would put me out some way, but they didn't. After 15 minuets, the same doc came back in and shot me up somemore. After another 15 minuets, my eyeballs were numb.

Afterwards he gave me some vicodin and told me to take it every 4 hours as prescirbed. I was a bit loopy for a day or two, but the pain subsided after 48 hours. I was told by the doc that when they have to gas or put someone out for the procedure, it takes the patient more time in the chair plus makes it harder for them to do the work.

After that incident, I will always opt for the local than being put out. As for pain, I have done more stupid things like smashing my thumb with a hammer, dropping something heavy on my toes, and other things that cause pain. When I think about those things,,,,,,,the needle pain is so little in comparision.
