Selling a Prop on Ebay???

I have never used Ebay but have a like new SS prop that I have no need for. Any tips or bewares on selling on Ebay.<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Howard

So Little,I sell lots of stuff on ebay. Make sure you give an acurate discription of the item mention any flaws or anything else someone might cry about later. Take money orders or cashiers checks only. Make sure you check the box that states the buyer pays shipping. Dont short change yourself on the shipping fees,it is not cheap to ups stuff so make sure you quote enough to cover it. If you know the wieght one of those shipping places can give you a pretty good idea what it will cost over the phone. By all meens insure the item, it is cheap and you will be glad you did if something goes wrong. Then just sit back and let the $$$$$ roll in. Of all the items I have sold on ebay (and its alot)I have only had one or two problems and they were solved with out much fuss.<br /><br />----------------<br />Flathead

Ship UPS and you are insured to $100 automatically. Use www.ups.com to figure your shipping costs however most people prefer a fixed shipping AND handling cost and you can make that for whatever amount you wish. Also, state in the auction listing that the item is used and sold "as is" unless you want to deal with returns(major hassle). 1 pic is free so make it a good one. Specify the exact #s stamped on the prop and what it can off of and the # of splines on the prop shaft(ie; be very specific to avoid getting alot of emails). Have fun...

Dont know what your particular item is worth but you have to figure unless its an antique or a hard to find vintage part most people go to ebay for a bargin. You have to ask yourself is the price I have in mind a bargin. A good way to gauge how to price an item is go to ebay and look at similar items that have sold, this should give you a good idea what to expect to sell for. SoLittle, if I was you I would wait few months to sell your prop. Right now they go cheap, and I am looking to buy some. The best time is July to September, when lakes and waters drop levels and people start tearing up props, they all go on Ebay to find another one...big $$ then.<br />I actually "played" with this last 2 years, kinda stock market, buy them now on Ebay for few $$ then re-sell them on Ebay for double after sitting on for 4 months.<br /><br />By the way, which prop do you have ? I might be interested

Good input from all - Thanks!<br /><br />Valv - It is one of a pair I bought from Solas for my 1987 OMC V4s. It is a 13 1/4 X 17" and has the number 1029683 stamped on it. It is like new and just rehubbed (not mounted since rehub). I took both in to be rehubbed and the prop shop called me and told me that one had a cracked hub due to a manufacturing defect. Solas agreed but did not have a prop to match so they gave me a new pair for a nominal charge. That left me with the one good one from the original pair. I could keep it for a spare but have a couple of alumnium for that. Sooo the interest in Ebay.<br /><br />Post back if interested.<br /><br />Howard<br />Miami Fl

Good advice to watch other similar items. I've found that auctions without a reserve price get more bidders and drive the price up. Waiting till July will bring you more $...

I often use the "Buy it Now" feature. You set a price that you will sell it for if someone wants it without the hassles of the auction/bidding. This option disappears from the page when someone places the first bid. I have sold and bought using this feature for speed and convenience.<br /><br />If an item retails for $100, and regularly sells on ebay for $65, I would set a Buy it Now price of $80. Someone that has been beat out of a couple previous auctions might jump at the chance to get it.
