Hi, I'm replacing a cracked block in a boat I just purchased. (First boat project) I am having trouble translating my model numbers. Hear is what I have, omc cobra model# 986321, eng 3.0L, Ser# T 0716886. Here is where it gets a little interesting, the engine currently attached to the out drive is a gm 4.3 L (not a 3.0 stated on the out drive tag). Here are a couple number I found on the engine T10170kc also right below that number was this one T1101472. From the first set of numbers I have been able to figure out it was made Oct 17, 1990, right? The only other markings on the block that I saw were gm 4.3 LG and 6sc1or maybe. I basically want to make sure I get the right short block and the right service manual for my out drive. Also has anyone heard of people putting 4.3l on the out drive ment for a 3.0.
Thanks for any help,
Garrett

Re: serial/model number help

I have been looking around also and have come up empty. Hope at least my comment will bring you back to the top so it will be noticed by someone more knowledgeable.

Re: serial/model number help

Having the same problem....I am confused. I have a 89 Bayliner 1950 Capri 5.0 with Cobra OMC and some say that I have a GMC and other say that I have a Ford. I cannot find the numbers to determine what is my engine type :(.
