Re: Serial Number

Don
More info.

Any help appreciated,I have just bought a 1997 Sundowner with a Volvo Penta 5.7GLi Engine.
I pick the boat up on Friday,I had a marine Engineer survey the Engine everything is good.
I asked him for the serial number and he sent it in his report.
Serial Number is T01304118

I have contacted several Volvo dealers and don't recongnise the number,so I contacted Four Winns and they told me the below.

The number is a OMC part number and not a true Volvo number. Omc went bust in 1999 and Volvo Penta bought the petrol engine range off OMC. OMC were the owners of Four Winns at the time.

Any thoughts

Cheers

Re: Serial Number

Sorry, but the T01304118 number is a serial number, not a part number. You need to get the full model number of the engine.

It will be in this type format.

57Fxxxxxx The x's will be letters also that further identify the engine.

Already have the serial number, it's T01304118. What we need is the model number.

Re: Serial Number

Great, and just so you understand why all those numbers are needed, here is what they all mean.

OMC Model number.jpg

On your engine, the spares I would carry would be Fuel filter, and a fuel pump relay, raw water pump impeller kit and assorted fuses used under the dash. That relay is the same relay used on both the start slave relay and the fuel pump relay.
A couple of long (3 feet) 14 gauge test leads with alligator clips on each end can come in real handy at times.
The trick about spare parts, is you have to have the tools on board to replace them.
The best spare you can carry is preventive maintenance. If you follow the manual on scheduled repairs, and keep an eye on the engine and drive, you probably won't need a bunch of spares.
