serial #

I bought a boat with what the dealer told me had a 1989 90 hp 3 cyl Mercury outboard on it. There isn't any tag but the # on the welch plug under the motor cover on the right side when it's on the boat says B146418. This is the # they said was the serial # but I can't find that in any reference material so I am not sure what year the motor is. can anyone help clear this up? Thanks,Rod

THanks alot,looks like it's not an 89. I wonder if the Glastron boat is an 89 like they said?

The last two digits in the boat VIN will say what year it is. If its an 89 then the last two digits will be 89.
