My local OMC dealer say he can't get the kit for this old SB. Do any of you have experience with this one? Is there a way I can tell if this has already been performed? The kit for my 92 60hp is number 436678. It's for installation of larger high-speed jets and a change of max spark advance.

Thanks

The kit contained new jets and a timing change from 19° BTDC to 17° BTDC. The bulletin told which motors were affected by the change.

If your motor was one of the listed ones, remove a jet and check the size and compare it to the original parts book. The factory service manuals prior to 1998 all have a jet size and part number listing so you can cross-reference one.

I don't see any jet part numbers in the OMC service manual, but I just pulled the jet and there is a part number on it, 44D. I can call the dealer tomorrow and check it. But, will the dealer’s current parts catalog list the original jet, or the jet they wanted everyone to switch to per the SB?

That kit contained three p/n 328542 # 47D jets (size .047").

These replaced the original 44D main jets on early production models and as SeaHorse noted, retarded max tiiming advance to 17°BTDC.

The master list of (all) jet part numbers is one of the last pages in chapter 1, of 1997 & older service manuals. The parts catalogs will only list what the factory original parts were.

-John

Also check with your dealer about other service bulletins published about that time that related to cooling issues on your motor, such as relocating the "pisser" fitting to the top of the block, and the new style hi-flow water pump kit that includes a heavier thermostat spring and eliminates the restrictor in the "pisser" hose.

Good enough, thanks for the help. Do either of you guys know if this helped the #2 cylinder temp issue? I belive that was the reason the SB was issued. That being said it was the #1 that failed on this one. Probably got some air traped at the top of the cooling jacket. The SB relocating the indicator port to the top of the case wasn't done either.

Seahorse - you posted while I was still writing my last reply. Yes I have the other SB's completed. Just need to knock this last one out and this motor will be caught up. I can't belive this thing went all these years without anyone completing these. It's a super motor. I got it in non running condition, fixed it and ran it a little this fall. I'd like to see this one run for another 14 years.
