Looking for some help / advice.

i recently bought a 1987 Edson Challenger GT with what the previous owner (and I) Thought was a 1987 Johnson 120HP VRO. The mix up came with the fact i could not read the model and serial number off the mounting bracket.

So i ordered, and just received the J120TLCUR manual from searayman13 along with a parts catalog.

now yesterday i was at the cottage and found the following info stamped on a frost plug:

CJ120TLCDC
G7149080

i am assuming the first is the model and "CD" says it's a 1986. The second must be the serial number. Please correct me if i am wrong.

anyway my question is for those in the "Know"

1) should i just keep and use the 1987 manual? Was there any changes?

2) should i email searayman13 and see if he'll do an exchange ( i see he has the 1986 service manual but no parts catalog)

any advice it most appreciated

You should be fine with the 1987 service manual. If there were any changes they were minimal. You can always go to http://www.marineengine.com and compare the parts between the two years if you are concerned.

The 1987 manual will be okay. In 1988 the mtr had some changes.

Searayman is a standup guy. I would not hesitate to drop him an email if your inclined. Goof ups happen. Best of luck. Rick.

Thanks for the quick responses. i emailed searayman, i'll see if he has the 1986's and if he'll swap. if not after leafing through the 1987 manual it's definitly have a year off than none at all.

thanks again guys, will keep you posted.
