set timing

I have a 1989 19ft smoker craft with a mercruiser 3.0.
I have watched videos on how to set the timing on the engine. But they don't say what year there motor is. When I look at the distributer cap there isn't a second plug in it with the 2 white and black wires. There is just one plug on the left with one black wire going up to the neutral switch. Do I need to buy the second plug set the timing.

sounds like you have a conventional ignition, no special procedure for checking/setting timing

post a pic of your distributor for verification
