Re: Setting my 89 Doral Classic mercruiser v6/205 on fire.

Lol if it doesn't run I'll just blow it up for something to do and buy a new this boat was 1500 and mention as a "learn what I'm doing boat" but I've grown to love it lol, as I said before I kinda know what I'm doing. I didn't goop jb weld anywhere I sanded a hole about the size of a pen head then put jb weld over it, outer jacket so not to concerned.

Thanks all

There are lots of folks running JB'd water jackets. You will be able to use it that way probably for a good amount of time. Just keep an eye on it.
If you are lucky it's possible your fuel filter has caught some big stuff. There's one at the point where fuel enters the carb, and some boats also have a bigger one by the fuel pump that's the shape of an oil filter. Those ones also remove water from the fuel.
If your fuel is restricted you might be able to run the motor without redoing the carb after it's flowing right.
Carb rebuilding is a pretty normal thing with sterndrive boats.

Yeah I pulled the inline on and it had some carp in it. Not a lot tho. The others filter looked a little ****ty aswell so I'm just going to do it all at once. This jackets been cast welded before, not when I owned it but many many years ago it looks like. I'm hoping it holds for as long as I own it

No luck, carb rebuilt and ran it on muffs till it heated up to temp. Ran it threw the gears they all worked fine. Take it to water today it started up and died again.....

Most annoying thang about this is the fact that the fuel pressures there, sparks there, carb is full of fuel like it should be, it ran prefect on the muffs for 15 min. Then the minute I take it to the water it starts rounds for about 20 sec then sputters and dies and won't restart. Lol dammit someone please help me lol

Did ya check the fitting at the tank? It should have an anti syphon valve, they get plugged from gunk in the tank. It might run fine on muffs in the driveway, but under power it wants more fuel.,and dirt in the tank moves around alot on the water. Check out the pickup in the tank, remove the fuel sender and have a look at the bottom of the tank for crud.

Will it run in neutral in the lake? If so check to see if the shift cutout is killing the motor on you.

So if it runs on the trailer but not in the water it could be the shift cutout. Look it up, it's a roller switch on the shift plate. When the roller is centered it allows the motor to run. It's design is that when you go to pull the drive out of gear it won't go to neutral while running. The pressure on the shift cable pulls the roller out of it's perch momentarily killing the ignition to allow the gears to disengage. Then once the gears disengage, the roller goes back to the center allowing the ignition to work again. On a functioning boat this happens so quickly you don't even notice it.
It's a common problem when the lower shift cable is sticking. The only repair is a replacement cable, it can't be lubed or adjusted out. But the good news is the cable doesn't cost too much.
By the way this is not the only possibility of what could cause your issue, just a guess.
You really ought to read the stickies at the top of the forum. It will fill in a lot of the blanks.

Oh and it starts like crap, but once it's going its good, no hiccups or anything, just a ***** to start, and won't work in water. I basically own a land dwelling vessel  Very frustrating.

Is it overheating? On muffs it will get some water pressure but in the lake it's relying on the seawater pump in the outdrive. If you haven't changed it, you won't know if it's any good.

That pressure escaping you heard sounds like there's steam pressure in the water jacket of the engine. If it's getting insufficient water it may be boiling in the engine causing this pressure. Could be a stuck thermostat too.
