I have seen a few posts about shaft repairs. Where do you folks get shafts fixed. i.e. worn seal areas and bent shafts. Are they as good as a replacement shaft and or cost effective?

Re: Shaft repair

Prop shafts, Power or the vertical shafts, shafts worn at the seal and are no longer good.

Re: Shaft repair

call some machine shops. A big shop here had a guy who was their outboard driveshaft "guy". BTW, the "vertical shaft" = driveshaft. Conversation was "bring it in, and Jim (?) will look at it". When I took it in, Jim showed me how it was past the point of repair (cracked/twisted). Otherwise, Jim would've given me a price for repair. (which would've been less than a new shaft)

Otherwise, call local marina's service dept, and ask what machine shop they use. (they probably source it out, so probably won't mind telling you)

Brent
