Managed to get my rig on my trailer slightly caddywompus yesterday afternoon...shallow ramp so the bow was coming in under the bowstop. Had to pull forward but then the rig was against the bunks way short of having the bow at the stop. Anyways, I get home and realize the boat is off by about an inch and a half. Doesn't sound so bad until you realize the fin (I don't know what you call them) on the hull is sitting on the bunk.

I'm thinking of taking my bottle jack and jacking up the rear of the rig, then pushing it over. My other choice is back to the ramp. Or, I could just leave it alone.

Re: Shallow ramps

I had that happen some years back, it was a smaller boat mind you, but I got a couple buddies to come over and we were able to "rock" it over into position. I would think if you used a 2x6 block between the jack and the hull, you might be ok.

I don't know if leaving it sit there is going to hurt it, but I know I didn't like it. If nothing else, I was too embarrassed to let any one at the ramp see it:rolleyes:

Re: Shallow ramps

I'm afraid a good bump on the highway might do some damage to the fin thing (somebody tell me what they're called) on the hull.

Don't quote me on this, but I think they are called "chines".

No lakes nearby that you can do a quick splash and adjust?

I can not comprehend your problem without visual aids.

I wouldn't worry too much about it unless its going to sit for a long time or you have a long haul ahead of you.

Well...the one I came out of yesterday, the shallow one is 40 minutes. To the wet sliop is over an hour. I'm hoping the bottle jack trick will work. Can't see it hurting.

Bottle jack will do just fine just make sure you keep it under the meat of the transom and use a 2x4 for distribute the load, and be aware you going to put alot of stress on the trailer post if you can't just hook it to your truck easily.

Mine gets a little off on the stern every once in awhile. My wife and I just rock the heck out of it and it falls in place. I normally catch it at the ramp cause the straps won't reach when its not on the trailer correctly.

A bottle jack won't hurt, like somebody posted, just use some wood to protect the hull.

Thanks. Hadn't considered that. I'll definitely hook it to the tow vehicle first.

Aren't shallow ramps fun! You should see the one I use. Only nice thing about it is that it's only 4 houses away and it's FREE!

That's why I use a tilt trailer. A bunk trailer and I'd never get it deep enough to launch.
