shear pin

i have a 69 model 3 hp yachtwin. it is the cutest thing you have ever seen. i broke the shear pin and used the ol fish hook trick to fix it. i noticed that it is the same size as a minn kota pin. are the two interchangeable??

If it fits try and use it.I can't see the three horse power motor delivering any more foot pounds of torque than the minn kota delivers. Let me know?

i put the pin in the shaft, had to cut about 1/8" off of it, but it fits with no play, so all i have to do now is go fishing, mabye ill do that this week, if any body has any reason that these two should not be wed, speak now or forever hold your guilt for my broken prop

As long as it fits closely and it's made out of the correct material (stainless, not brass), it's the right pin for the job. <br />PS - 1968 was the last year for 3hp engines. Got a model number?

I have a lightwin 4hp, and I use aluminum{sp} nails as shear pins. they fit real good don't rust and break off if something is hit with NO problem to the unit.

3036S - 1960. Mix 24:1.<br /><br />Which doesn't make a lot of sense. Yachttwins didn't come out till '64. Could be 3736S - '67 Yachttwin? Is it in fact a yachtwin with the extra-long leg and 90° drive (regular propshaft) rather than weedless angled drive?

my bad,model number-3736s<br /> serial number-e01374<br />three questions have spawned, i have been mixing at 50:1 with my big motor oil(q-state), but when i first got it i used weedeater gas and oil @50:1. question. is my poor,poor, yachtwin going to die?, and the prop is a 8x4-1/2 three blader, is that too big? is there anything else i need to know about the little darlin?<br /><br />ps, to paul-it still has the factory decals on it, it is in hella good condition.

Nice. Those 3hp (and later 4hp) engines are really great little runners. They're very durable and I'm sure you didn't harm it by running some weedeater oil through it - it'll just leave lots of deposites. Have a look at roscoe's decarb FAQ in the Engine FAQ forum if you want to clean 'er out.<br />50:1 is the prescribed mix for OMCs earlier than '64. Since yours is a '67, this is the 'correct' mix. Personally I think it's too little for this particular engine and I run mine at 32:1. Your engine uses plain bearings and oil slingers rather than seals throughout, so it really wants an extra volume of oil. Have a look at Chinewalker's oil mix FAQ for more details.<br />The 8x4.5 3 blade is the smallest prop ever offered for the 3hp. It's ideal for heavy boats, so it's what came stock on the Yachttwin.<br /><br />Hope this answers your questions!
