I have a 1967 65hp 4 cyl. merc, question is, does it have a shear pin installed somewhere? When I bought it last month the father of the man I bought it from told me to always be sure I had extra shear pins and in cleaning the boat I found a bag of them. I have pulled the lower unit and changed the impeller and did not notice a pin anywhere and I can't find reference to a shear pin in my repair manual. As always thanks for your help.

I don't know that engine specifically but shear pins are normally between the prop and the shaft. If the prop hits something the pin breaks saving the gear box and engine.

That is my understanding also but when I had the lower unit off I removed the prop and it is on a splined shaft so there is no way for it to slip there and I don't know where else a shear pin might be. Thanks for your help...
