Shift Cable Adjustment........

Shift cable was replaced and now I can not get it to shift correctly. Orginally shifting into forward would kill the engine, fixed that. But I'm still getting ratching and a "bang" sometimes going into gear. The neutral safety switch does not move at while going through the shifting process? Moving the adustment bolt up on the control makes it work, but nothing when the bolt in the bottom of the slot. I have gone through the steps in the Merc book, and the cable adjustment seems close, just can't find the "happy spot". I was wondering if anybody had any information or tricks gained through field experience that might be able to help me.

Thanks,

That Only works when the boat is IN the water.......

Just Guessing on This,... That you're talikng about the Shift Switch,+ Not the Neutral Switch........
