got boat in , after all the help I got from this forum ,replacing engine , gimble etc,, , must of did a good job with alignment as it fell out, to the question , seems I have the dreaded shifter cable problem, shifting in and out of reverse and now forward , dies, 95 merc 4.3 alpha 1, ser no on out drive 0f523375. do I have to pull hinge pins to install new bellows when I change cable, the bellows look great but shouldnt I replace now? any tricks? the crimper they show you to make in manuel doesnt look like you could get it in there with other bellows on. also any body know correct part no, for bushing , seal kit for shift shaft, and merc cable kit? I have out drive off, everything looks straight forward, is the hardest part geting it thru the transome? any tricks , thanks again mac from nebraska:D

A cable job on a gen 2 isn't to bad as long is the drive isn't salted to death. You'll need the special socket or you'll need to make your own if you have a welder. You may also need a straight if your threads are buggered.
Its kind of a 1 1/2 person job. After you get it all apart its easier to have a guy in the boat help rout the sheath as you push the cable through. Its also easier because you need a guy to turn the sheath as you tighten down the cable.
Yes you want to replace that bellow along with the cable. You don't need a crimping tool, all you need is a marine fuel line zip tie instead of that crimper.
As far as the part number of the kit... i'm to lazy to look it up for you. But i'm sure you can find it here on Iboats or over on mercruiserparts.com

Unless you replaced all of the bellows in the last couple years NOW is the time to do it...

Extra ? how does one put that bushing on that goes on the shift cable at the trasom? it came out when i pushed the cable back in. can't see where the cable goes through on the inside. Or do i just leave off.
