i finally got my boat on the water and i noticed i had sprung a leak. behind the motor i see water coming in through a hose and i follow it and see that it is for the shifting forward and reverse. it has a solid hard plastic line from the throttle, out the bottom of the boat, into the outdrive. from the bottom of the boat there is a hose going around it and it is about 3 foot long. i patched the hole with a rubber hose and clamp but i was wonder if water is sapposed to go into the hose or not.

its a dead end on the upper side of the hose.

Re: shift cable help

It is very possible that the hose for the shift cable has sprung a leak, and it does exit below waterline, so yes there is supposed to be water in it. Better fix it before your boat sinks!

Re: shift cable help

That would be an OMC. Patch the hose and keep the inboard end above the water line.
