shift cable question while doing my trim sensors....

Howdy,
Started my project of replacing the trim sensors and wires on my 1986 Alpha One
Got the drive off, and getting ready to pull the pivot pins and sensors.
I was thinking I that the entire housing comes off once the bellows are unhooked, but then I noticed the shift cable. Do you need to pull this out? I assume, from watching videos, that if I am removing the shift cable, I need to unhook from the motor and pull the inner cable out from the back of the boat. Do I need to pull that out? If so, should I just replace the cable?

I've replaced many a trim sender without removing the shift cable. You are just working with slightly less access. If all I'm replacing is the senders, I don't even remove the bellows.

Thanks for the quick reply. If I remove the hinge pins, will I have enough room to get to the two bolts for the plate holding the wires in without removing the bellows? That would be awesome ;-)

I keep reading how hard the bolts are to get to. I do have 1/4" flex head sockets and offset wrenches, but was thinking I had to remove everything to get to the sensor wire plate.

I made a 'special tool' for getting at those screws. It's a 7/16" ring spanner that I heated up and bent at the right point. The ring fits nicely on the head and I use a screwdriver through the other end as a turning tool.

You do still need to remove the hinge pins.
