shift cable

Is there a way to replace a electric shift cable with a mechanical one? I have a 20' cigarette with a built 454/trs outdrive.I am told that they no longer make the shift actuator that I need. Also is it possible to rebuild my existing actuator? Any help would really make my day,thanks Bill.

if my memory is correct ,all you have is a shift cable from the drive going to a box with electrics in it?<br />If so, you could by installing a new control box and shift plate and eliminate the electric shift.<br />Ed
