Early 70's Sea Ray with Mercruiser 165 (straight six) with aftermarket SE106 outdrive.
Boat has been hard to shift out of gear. Exciting when approaching the dock!
Idles around 700 when warmed up in gear. That's a little high - but I can't imagine that it's so high that it should be so hard to get out of gear.
I want to check the timing of the shift interrupt switch. I have the Service Manual #1, but I cannot find any information about checking or adjusting the shift interrupt switch.
I also have Service Manual #6 which covers the Alpha. In section 1C-44, it shows how to check and adjust the switch. Specifically checking to see if it engages at 1/8" of travel:
This old Sea Ray has the NLA switch assembly on the transom:
My question is: does anyone know if the same specifications apply to the two different style of switches? If not, does anyone have the correct specs? Or even where to look in the appropriate manual?
