some of you may remember my lower unit seal replacement fiasco... after much headache i have deterimined that the shift rod seal/bushing is the culprit. it leaks only a small amount, but that's still too much for me. so. i have removed the LU and unscrewed the shift rod from the yoke,

now i want to remove the bushing. how can i do this without disassembling the entire lower unit? my manual details the removal using a 1/4" threaded rod and a slide hammer, but this will work only if the guts of the gearcase are out of the way. i have a slide hammer....

i don't want to disturb the seal without some input first.
