I'm doing a lower unit re-seal on this motor and have the cover off that houses the shift shaft o-ring. I need to replace this o-ring, but cannot find where to get it out. It looks like there is some brass housing for it, maybe pressed into this housing but I'm not sure how, or if I need to remove it. Anyone have any tips? Thanks

A dental pick works great. If its a salt water motor you may spend a lot of time cleaning out the corrosion from the grooves but you may find that the internal sealing area is pitted so a new o-ring won't work. a new $30 shift cover comes with the oring installed.
