Ureaka !!!!!!!
I have found the leak, DonS. In my 1988 5.0L AlfaOne. After some very intense moments (  :( ) trying to look behind the engine with a telescopic mirror and flashlight(s), and inspecting and reinspecting and running just short of insanity, I have found that little, pain in my side, leak. It has been the shifter bellows all along. Now my question is this. Can someone please tell me how to replace that little bugger? Thanx for anything.

Re: Shifter Bellows replacement!!!!

Remove the drive, remove the shift cable, change the bellows, put the cable back on, put the drive back on.
That's the easy version, if the lower shift cable is over 3 years old, just go ahead and replace it.
Here is a link to the Merc service manual that will explain the details a LOT clearer.

http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/6/6covr3.pdf

Re: Shifter Bellows replacement!!!!

i'm about to do the same on my merc. the only thing i'm a little foggy about is when i'm removing the shift cable so i can slide the bellows off and the new one back on. the manual above says that i undo a cap at the transom inside the boat, and the whole cable slides through?... or do i just remove the set screw at the shifter at the bellhousing and that will slide off the cable?
