hey folks, looking to get a battery and prices are all over the place. from $89-$399 for similar specs, i was told, "just get any cheap deep cycle"...which really didnt get me any further with options as there were still so many. sealed vs not sealed? amps?
i tried the searchies, but amongst 12 pages of results, alas nada.
thanks

:)

I have the same basic setup and i bought an Everstart (I think that was the brand) deep cycle marine battery from WalMart. It could double as an anchor!! I USED that boat HARD plowing my 5 person family against ocean currents at full throttle across salt marshes for hours and never have run it out of juice. If I had it to do over a car battery probably would have been fine, or a riding mower battery but no actual experience with that. There's my 2 cents.

Deep cycle for sure. Lots of brands, Delco, Sears, Interstate etc. No reason to pay over 80 to $100. Most of of the choices will be sealed batteries.

from what i was told, definitely want a deep cycle. apparently starting batteries deliver a high output short bursts to crank the engine over, whereas a deep cycle battery is designed for slow dissipation. iir what he said, dual purpose gel would be the way to go. i read on another forum that folks were using the kirkland/costco brand with no problems, "if you do, the warranty kicks *** and just bring it back!"
i reminded them, being up spits creeks without a battery is just poo on the fan.
also, made some anchor weghts out of old paintball pods; just filled with fastsetkwikreterapidset stuff and made a knot in a short section of rope an left the a loop hanging.
pics when i get back.
