hello guys new here, trying to get some feedback before i buy another part. heres what i got for the masses.

1989 50hp force model 507Y9B

i was putting a light in boat last evening. had a mishap and wire on light burned up smoked cooked in two. this boat had been running perfectly before this. i had it running just before the wiring. after i fixed the light and got that all working again i tried to fire it up. nothing. cranked but no spark to plugs. i checked fuses wiring on motor everything looked fine. but i started deteting a funky burnt smell on the motor area. i removed the coil powerpack assembly. this is what i found. pics below.

it has this black resin looking stuff on the wires where they enter exit. it is possible or common that i could have burned up the ignition box (power pack) during that ground short?

this smell was strong and my son could smell the odor on my fingers feom a few feet away after i has washed my hands. is this common for a burned up pack. there expensive so i need advise before i go buy it. everything alse in boat works. all lights starter pumps ect. just after short 0 spark.

Make sue that the "Kill Switch" circuit is not grounded. To do this, disconnect the white wire from the CD module. This disables the engine kill circuit. I believe the white wire runs over to the terminal block. Just disconnect it from the terminal block. If the motor starts, just choke the motor to stop it. This means you've got a wiring problem or your Kill Switch lanyard is pulled off of the switch or the Kill Switch itself is bad (shorted).

If still no spark, check the stator. Disconnect the Blue and Yellow wires that come out from under the flywheel. These are your stator wires. They should read 680-850 OHMS.

Here is a place that I've used for the CD modules at a reasonable cost.

Usually a melted pack means a bad pack.
Sent U a PM.
outboardignition.com has test procedures for the Force Outboards.
So does CDI electronics.J

yes it was. my main concern was buying parts i didnt need. ive done it before. i was almost certain the box was fried with the smell and the resin on it like the filling sealent was burnt. took it out yesterday caught a 10lb 5 oz channel cat and 11 from 2-6 lbs. awesome. and even better i joined here to get help on this and have added some pics and stuff of force threads to help others and even found a gasket for one guy having trouble.
