Hello..

I want to buy a new outboard for my older 17ft runabout. It only has a short transom 15". I would like to know if anyone can recommend a new short shaft outboard..Ive looked at Honda but they only seem to do long shaft engines.
I dont really want to do any fibreglass work on the transom I have now to get a long shaft engine to fit

What can anyone suggest..?

Re: Short Shaft outboards.

You're probably outaluck. I believe the largest new motor in short shaft is about 30 HP. For a 17 footer that might not be adequate.

I had the same problem a few years ago when I bought my 25. 15 inchers were few and far between and I had to special order it.

You can mount an engine bracket on it but an "Older" boat might not be up to handling it. Regardless, today's OBs are much heavier so the condition of your transom will come into play too.
