short yoke question

I see the my short yoke has some very, very light pitting which caused the seal to leak this spring. I know that the pitting could be removed with emery paper. My question, is it a good idea to just sand this down or buy a new short yoke? I've sanded down truck yokes & harmonic balancers with no worries...



thought I'd ask while I'm out picking up automotive u joints today...

It's eiather a new yoke or slightly offset the placement of the new seal, which ever you're most comfortable with...

Depends on what your time is worth. I ended up getting a new one when I did mine; one less thing to worry about and more time to do other stuff...like boating.

ahh ok thanks for the quick responses I've learned a lot from this site, more then in 4 years of business school lol

I took about 45 mins last night and got all the pits removed surprisingly it didn't take much... the new seal has 2 lips ( dust/oil assuming you for sure as hell don't want dust in your upper bellow hehe sierra overkill) and a tad wider then the old one..... my local boat shop in dfw wanted 139 for the yoke lol I won't name any names since a lotta locals seem to be on here The new yoke sure had a lot more surface area for the seal too... just so they can add extra shimming fee's lol

I did learn one thing out of all this, never again will I replace a bellow from :facepalm:china:facepalm: since they last about 23 1/2 months ( 14 of those in an out of water every weekend )
