That motor is probably worth close to $2k by itself.

The boat and motor look extremely clean so I doubt if anything is wrong so. What is his problem with a sea test? Tell him you will give him $50 in good faith and go with him and try it on the water. The $50 would be applied to the agreed upon sale price. That would be a cheap test and he would know you was sincere. If the foam is soaked. It will be sluggish to get on plane. If it leaks or there is another problem that will also surface. Look it over real close after the sea test. If he declines the sea test. Run away for something is wrong. Also you drive the boat. The price seems fair to me. I would say run it ton the water for an hour and put it through the paces. Fast , slow, troll and slow and then fast again. Good luck. Like I said the boat looks to be in great condition.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I

Hey Guys
Found this boat and it is close by, called the guy and ask if I could be able to test drive. He said he would started only on the muffs. My concern is that the foam could be soaked. Please take a look and let me know if you think it is worth it.:D

Do you know the reserve price
Personally the soaked foam question whould not be my major concern-
If he refuses to let you test drive (if within a resonable distance to water) i'd be a bit hesitant

At the very least I'd do a compression check with the muffs on it. Make sure all cylinders have good compression and are close to the same of each other. A friend of mine got burnt on a boat, sounded good in the driveway, put it in water, had no power. Had 1 cylinder toasted.

No idea what the reserve price is but I don't think I would go any higher than what he is asking if he let me test drive it. I know he doesn't have any maintenance records for the engine and he bought the boat and motor 2 years ago. When talking to him he sounded like he had to many things going on even to talk about the boat. He said he had a lot of problems right now. I would like to find a nice boat like this to do back bay flounder fishing.

Just an afterthought did you check out it's value on Nadaguides.com?

I'll bet you a dollar his reserve is $3000.

Also, wrt to sea testing....at least around here....it's usually not going to happen unless it's a boat worth well over $5000. You'll see them run in barrells or on muffs, could even do a compression test. Not likely to get a sea trial though.....too many tire kickers at the low end of the price spectrum.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I

wow, I didn't see that. He must be dreaming $4600. Nada shows the boat at $600 and motor $1100 to $1400 not sure of the model #. Guess I better pass, he won't want to hear my offer:eek:

Make the offer. If he turns it down. Leave your phone number with him. He might come down to his senses if he doesn't find a sucker at that price on CL. The most he can do is say no.

Looks like a whaler to me - what are you seeing that I'm not? Besides the missing stickers on the side.

It's a Del Quay according to Nadaguides and Nadaguides only goes back to 1972

Value $600 - Tops $932

They look like a WannaB - Boston Whaler - Stilll the boat looks very clean and well cared for so what it's worth really is what someone is willing to pay for it and no more.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I

I sent him an e-mail offering $1200 without a test trail, I guess I won't here from him since he thinks its worth around 4g. People have to be real about what they have and what it is worth. If we could test run it and it did well I may have givin him $2000 for it.
