When there have been swimmers of any age in the water at the ramp, I have been known to look over the side and point downward while yelling as loud as I can..................................
"Holy sheet, look at the size of those turds"
or
"Have you guys seen Al the gator under the dock today?"

Thats all fine, untill a fishing line gets wrapped around your lower unit and takes out a seal, which you do not discover untill your in the middle of the lake on your next outing.$$$$ Just get out the flare gun and tell them to move it,just kidding, but not a bad idea, untill they sue you for threatning them.Jet skiers are not any better as they come flying in with no second thoughts about there wake .See that all the time, got to pick your battles when you think it might sink in with these idiots.Had a jet Ahole fixing his POS at the ramp, could of moved it around the corner,5' but that was to much for him.Other ramp had a another idiot load up his boat and pull it 10' up the ramp then decides to tie it down and fix his platform that had half fallen off.Still on the incline. To stupid to pull it ahead and out of the way.So there I sit for 5+ minutes, then say F it and go grab my truck and weave my way around the idiot boat dude that still has not seen the light go off in his numbskull head.I think we could all go on and on about ALL the morons at that ramp.

They probably think your talking about them with the turd comment although I may have to try that one in the future. No gators up here in the Great Lakes but may just try shouting out where did them water snakes come from?? Just about everbody hates snakes so that may be effective.

Re: Sick of Kids Swimming at the Docks.

The problem 'round here is kayakers more that kids. The kids have more respect. Our lil one holer SVCA(South Venice Civic Association) ramp is being over run. Many of these sobs don't live in S Venice, nor do they belong to the SVCA. Which btw requires an annual fee to obtain a numbered ramp key.

The chain & lock hanging across the ramp are no obstacle to these freeloaders. Simply slide the kayak under the chain, load up, and off they go. To clog up the lil channel out to the intracoastal & so on. I'm always touched by the way these environmentalist unload their kayaks off top of a gas guzzling SUV and head out to protect nature.

Kids are young'n dumb, and getting dumber by the day via lack of parental guidance. All I can say is if there are kids anywhere near the ramp throttle back'n be prepared for anything.

When i launch or retrieve my girls (10 & 7) get over to an area to the side, about 15 feet away, with vests on, and only knee deep clear of what I'm doing, if so much as a rowboat shows up their out of the water and off to the side out of the way until i pull out, respect others is what we teach (and use commen sense), I don't get many kids swimming but other boaters dogs running all over the water if frustrating.

My ramp is part of a public park, so lots of people there. Its not free for me - my launch permits cost me $150 a year. Everybody else (fishemen, joggers, picknickers) uses it for free. Best ramp in NYS so I'm not complaining about paying for it.

People park single cars in the double spaces meant for cars w/trailers. No problem - heavily patrolled and the police ticket them with a $50 fine.

The "problem" is people throwing sticks for their dogs to retreive at the boat ramp. No kids swimming - just dogs. Obviously, you can't yell at a dog owner about their pets because they think you're Satan or something if you don't love dogs. I try to hit them with the boat, but I'm usually not fast enough. One day, though, I'll cream one of those puppies....LOL.

It's summer, it's hot, and they're kids...have to look out for young folks, maybe tell them to swim in another area...

I remember when I was a young kid...lets say 10 yrs old... when me and the other kids that lived on the block I lived on, would be out playing baseball in the street.... when the outfielders saw a car coming from behind the batter ( fungo batter ) they would yell out CAR ! And if the batter saw one coming from the other direction.... "CAR !!!"....
None of us ever got run over on our block...thats just what we did... it's a shame the kids swimmin at the dock haven't realized this , so they could get out of the way , as me and my friends did ...way back when.....

Re: Sick of Kids Swimming at the Docks.

I had it happen a few times but July 1st was my worst time.
It must of took me an extra 1/2 hour to launch my boat.
Arrived at the launch to see 2 girls, early 20's, suntanning on the boat ramp.
After staring for abit and then abit more, got out and asked them to move and they were nice enough to oblige, moving over to the side of the launch,on the grass.
I must have pitch poled that trailer 10 times before I got that boat in the water.

Oh dear God don't do that. You'll have the SPCA and/or every dog lover on the planet after you!

I have to agree the depth of puppy love some people have for their dogs is disturbing. Y'know if ya take a long look at it it's nothing more than slavery. ie I'll feed & care for you if you do what I tell you to do?

Re: Sick of Kids Swimming at the Docks.

Most kids i see offer to help. They want to help tie the boat up, ask about my catch, watch the boat while i go get the truck. I dont think in 25 years of boating i can remember kids jamming me up in any way. Even adults at the ramps i have been too seem to be doing the best they can. The teens are a whole other topic though, many slow moving late teen, early 20 somethings.

isnt how that goes for some marriages too? i strongly disagree with that statement, i guess my dogs would be better off eating road kill and dodging traffic as to me feeding and caring for them to do what i tell them to do. its not like i make them pick cotton or wax my shoes, they sit stay laydown and kiss, wow what a dutiful job. oh yeah they come sometimes too....hmmm do i humiliate them when i make them ride in the back of the truck or poop in a different spot too? oh i forgot they drink from a different area too.

Re: Sick of Kids Swimming at the Docks.

Working security @ local nice hotel.. get a call about some guests swimming in the indoor pond (set up to look like a 2 story waterfall/creek.. complete with koi (bigazz gold fish)_
Yup, mom, dad, pants rolled up walking in middle of creek, kids chasing the fish.
After they get out the dad sez, "What the ___! The sign sez indoor pool!"
Sure nuff, there was a nice 8"x11" sign with a red arrow underneath the words, indoor pool.
I guess if one didn't think about it too much, it would look like the arrow was pointing at the indoor waterfall/creek, instead of the indoor pool door...

Hope you're joking about the muffs at 5:00 a.m.. That sounds like a good way to wake up to flat tires and all sorts of fun stuff.

Yes Joking. It was 7:00am.

Depends where you live. I live in the woods and it wouldn't bother my neighbors in the least. It's no louder than my diesel truck, or my diesel tractor, or any of the same owned by neighbors.
Now people who vandalize other people's things instead of talking to them about it like adults, they might be the kind to end up missing...

Try throwing a few stick baits for them to retrieve.

Re: Sick of Kids Swimming at the Docks.

It was a nice evening out here in central NJ last night so I took a friend on the bike and we went to the local lake. We were just sitting at the end of the dock and to our left there was like four 9 year olds jumping off the dock while somebody was trying to launch a boat. Don't forget it was totally dark, and the adult who the kids were with was busy strapping his boat on the trailer. Ironic...

I do the same thing but 5:00am in the Morning. Perfect time to run the boat on the Muffs that time as well.

Running on muffs at 5:00 AM? HAHAHA My 7.4 will wake the dead at that hour and am sure the neighbors would want to have a "Come to Jesus meeting" with me if I did that. And I don't even have thru hull exhausts.
