Re: Sick of Kids Swimming at the Docks.

. I try to hit them with the boat, but I'm usually not fast enough. One day, though, I'll cream one of those puppies....LOL.

I do the same exact thing with the children!.. but the little snots are too fast, I think it's all that caffiene they drink............ not really.

The kids swimming and people fishing around here will move out of the way when they see a boat coming most of the time. I did have one bad experience with a kid though. There were 4 of them swimming off the dock and they had all gotten out of the water and were on the dock. As I was coming in not 4' from the dock one little snot dove right in front of my boat not 8' away, scared me to death!!! He swam around to the other side of the dock and got out, and as I was tying up I went off on them. Yelled at them (in my meanest tone) and told them they weren't supposed to be swimming off the dock. The one that dove in front of me said "Ok, sheesh" and they all left. Had it been the "old days" when other people were allowed to spank your children when they misbehaved, I'd have set his little but on fire!!!

It's not like the kids that swim and people that fish off the ramp dock there have a good excuse. There's a nice roped off beach with trucked in sand and 2 dock/piers for fishing only... but they still do it.

I feel for you guys. I have never had boat ramp experiences but it sounds like a good way to ruin the day. I drove by one of the larger ramps on the river this past weekend and it was MOBBED. Had to be 40+ trucks/trailers filling the main lot and most of the area across the street. I couldn't imagine people swimming or fishing in an area that heavily used by boaters, but every day something new amazes me.

Boy do I feel lucky to have a slip and not have to deal with this BS. Sometimes I wonder if its worth the cost but everyday I read something on here that helps justify it..=)

Can't say that kids have been swimming at my ramp (the water at the end of the lake where the ramp is is nasty), but there were some in the way on the docks when I was pulling up to the ramp. Luckily their father made them get out of the way before I got there.

It's summer, it's hot, and they're kids...have to look out for young folks, maybe tell them to swim in another area...

Unfortunately... Kids usually don't know they are in a dangerous situation till it's too late.... To them fun is fun..
They should be under some kind of adult supervision, But I can recall when I was that age we didn't want our parents around to spoil our fun( probably why I have broken 28+bone in my life)

I probably would have went off on them like a drill instructor so they wouldn't forget.

Thanks for all your Stories. I enjoy everyone of them. Glad I'm not alone.

Any off Topic. Even if I ran my boat at 5:00am I barely hear it in the house. Just a very low rumble. I have one neighbor and they have a couple 2 stroke dirt bikes. Those things Wake up the Dead when they run them at home.

Re: Sick of Kids Swimming at the Docks.

A couple of years ago, I was boating solo and tied up at a public dock adjacent to a ramp. It was very windy and I needed to tie up on the lee side of the dock, so I rigged a looped spring line and fenders ahead of time, approached the dock, dropped the loop over a piling, and then gently used the engine (in and out of gear) to bring the boat tightly alongside the dock. Once in place, I left the engine running and in forward gear to hold the boat in place while I got out and tied it up the normal way. A kid that was hanging out on the dock saw that I'd left the boat running and in gear and jumped into the water behind the boat to play in the prop wash. He was swimming against the thrust and staying in place about 5 feet behind the props (Bravo 3). I can't imagine getting anywhere near those whirling cleavers of death while they are spinning.

Thats all fine, untill a fishing line gets wrapped around your lower unit and takes out a seal, which you do not discover untill your in the middle of the lake on your next outing.$$$$

Have to agree with that. I haven't had much trouble with kids or other swimming at the ramp but the people fishing cost me plenty when I ran over their line and it took out a seal. I was getting ready for a week on the boat when this happened and the boat spent a week in the shop instead of out on the water. Lost my entire week of vacation.

At least that was just money, if you hit the kids...

This is a "Family Forum", or there are lots of common sense answers that come to mind. From my old days, I remember something like a Remington 308 with a floating barrel, laser sights, etc...... Anyone think that would work ?? I'm sure that some of the moderators remember how it did work !!!
