Silvertip/carb - Good News!

Cleaned the top carb. Put the boat in the water. Idles better but not great but the good news is that it runs up to wot 5200 to 5400 rpm with no problems. Runs smoother and quieter than ever. Thanks again! I've pulled the two other carbs out and am soaking them now. I still have questions about the assembly and will figure out how to post pictures on the forums help area.

If I install as per diagram the top plate sits proud. If I install the rubber disc and metal disc on the outside and single rubber disc on the middle the plate sits flat. Which is correct? Is the plate to sit flat.

I believe the diagram is correct. Which way was it when you disassembled it?

When I disasemmbled the carbs the centre hole had only a rubber packing. The right hole had the metal disc and rubber packing. If i re-install as per the diagram with the rubber packing and metal disc in the middle, the top plate sits high over the centre and barely contacts the right packing.. We reassebled the carbs the way we found them, set the pilot screws at 1 1/4 turns out. Without any other adjustments it idles at about 1300 rpm on the muffs. Its smoother and quieter than its ever been. Heck I even put a beer on the top and it didn't fall off. Sure would like to find out if the diagram is correct and if the plate is supposed to sit level or slightly up. Salmon are running and its a long weekend, I guess we'll do a sea trial in the Straights of Juan da Fuca. Thanks again.

Idle speed of 1300 is way too high. You'll damage the clutch dogs and possibly damage other lower unit parts by having it engage forward or reverse at that RPM. Needs to be down in the 700 - 750 RPM range. Even 800 or 850 would be tolerable but not 1300. I'm certainly not a Yamaha expert so I can't confirm the accuracy of the drawing but I would believe the way you took it apart is the way it should go together.
