Hey guys i have a 1988 25 horse johnson that is driving me crazy. the motor was not running very good at high speed so i adjusted the throttle advanced the armatur plate and so on now the motor runs better but it doesnt have the speed it should im not sure what to try should i re adjust the throttle control arm again here is what i have replaced so far i replaced the fuel tank the fuel lines the bulb all the fuel lines rebuilt and cleaned the carb really good need all the advice i can get thanks.

Do you have a factory Service Manual, CD? Seems to me that you are fixing a lot of stuff that ain't broke.:redface:

Throttle control and timing will never be right until you do a link 'n' synch by the factory manual.


Hmmmmm. Post number 35,000. Probably 20,000 of those should have included recommendation to get a factory Service Manual.

i replaced those things because the boat sat for a long time i thought you may be able to tell me how to do a link and sync

To do that job, you really do need the service manual. Explaining how to do it requires photos and step-by-step instructions.

Check your local library. They may have the manual or be able to get it. They may also have access to the information online.

Or, buy one. It will save you lots of time on all sorts of maintenance and repairs.
