My manual says to only use single viscosity oil, 30w. The previous owner used 10w30. should I stick with the 10w30, or go with manufacuter recommondations?? pros/cons???

Re: single weight vs. multi weight

You will get many opinions on this topic.
When i had my 1987 OMC it called for straight 30 weight.
I always used Rotella 30 weight. You can find it in any truck stop and most Advance auto parts stores sell it.It stays clean looking for a long time and oil pressure was always good with it.

I would go with the owner's manual suggests.

Why did you use Rotella? It is designed for diesel engines. I will agree that it is the best oil for its use. (This comment is from, not me. It is from an MIT graduate who was chief of enginerring at a major truck MFG [Think Kenworth, Mack, Peterbuilt]. In his spare time he also designed and oversaw engine testing for Cumings.)
