I've been giving some thought to replacing the sinks in my boat, 1998 Four Winns Vista. They are the original aluminum (I think) and was considering possibly a porceline replacement for both the galley round sink and bathroom oval. Something that will look a bit nicer than the current ones. Other than Overton's or West Marine, anyone have any suggestions on places to look? I was thinking I might try Four Winns, but have not found the local dealer to be very responsive when it comes to "just parts"

**BRAINSTORM**

Take the existing sink out and have it powdercoated to match the accent color of your boat. I think a lipstick red would look cool as all get out.

I doubt they are aluminum, I woule expect stainless steel. You might want to try a good stainless steel polish (Flitz is good) and see how well they clean up. Cost will be under $20 vs. several hundred dollars. Also, a lot less work.

Yes, but powder coating a sink wouldn't be a very good idea. Scratch it while washing silverware and it's all over with. You don't find painted sinks in homes or businesses.

Powder coating is using an electrostatic charge to attract paint particles to the surface to be coated and then heating the surface to melt the particles into a continuous film.

Yes, it's great for many applications. I don't think a sink is one of them.

Why would it be any different than a colored enamel sink? I have a black one in my kitchen and it has looked great for 3 years now.

Almost everything on our almost daily used sportfish that is colored is by powder coat. It is very strong and resists most everything from flying sinkers, finger rings, belt buckles, and knives. Powder coated aluminium with SS fasteners don't get along with each other though. If it were me I would listen to Fireman and Bond-O.

I know the powdercoating is tough stuff. i have it on a lot of my racecar parts. A SS sink with shiny SS parts on a colored finish would look cool. It's not expensive either. i would assume $50 or less per sink. I looked into powdercoated sinks and came up with these in 2 minutes.

Re: Sink replacement

Is powdercoating a DIY project, or do I have to find someone that does it? They do look nice.

They do make a DIY kit, but you're going to ruin your home stove/oven if you do. It's better to find a local company. They have to clean the parts and abrade them so the powder stick properly. Let the pros do it.
