I have decided to use coosa composites to replace my stringers and floor. The stringers that were in the boat (18 foot volvo/chev V8 i/o) were not the originals and were lumber store spf 1 1/2" dimensional lumber. I am thinking I could use with a 3/4" or 1" thick coosa bluewater 26 series marine board. Does anyone familiar with composites think I could do this or should I just laminate 3/4" pieces to get the 1 1/2"?

i'd laminate, don't know the structural elements of the material you are using.

Never used it and it seems very costly.

Email the company that makes it and ask them direct. Then you will get the proper reply.

You may want to talk to the Coosa folks and see what they recommend. I contacted them about their products for my last project boat and found them to be very helpful. Another option is to contact a boat manufacturer and see if they will give their specs for stringers. We have several in my area and they were very open about what products they used for various applications.

I would laminate two 3/4 inch pieces. It distributes the load from the stringers over a larger area of the hull.

Have a great day

I had my transom redone about 5 years ago with coosa - 23' CC - instead of plywood. I don't think one second about rot anymore.

Not thinking about rot anymore will be great, and when I hand the boat down to the nephews I know they will have a sound craft for years and years. I am doing everything in composites, the transom, stringers, and floor.

Re: Size of coosa for stringers?

I talked to the Coosa people, very helpfull...Then I wanted to ship two 4X8 panels to my house, since I'm not a business they (not coosa, but the closet dealer to my house which was Seattle) said it would be very expensive to ship. I said give me a price and after E-mailing and talking on the phone I never got a price. The company (I will not name) made it very difficult to get any answers. I called Coosa back they told me all the information about the product but nothing on how to get it. Just thought you'd like to know if you really like this stuff and want it. You might look into the shipping procedure first..plus the Company not mention was backordered on most of the materials..

I will be shipping to a business so that may help. Hmmm, we will see. Sometimes what someone says is expensive for shipping turns out to be not so bad all things considered. BTW did you ever get your coosa board?

Re: Size of coosa for stringers?

I ordered my coosa composite on tuesday May 8th, and received it today (May 15th). Order consisted of 1 sheet 1 1/2", 2 sheets 3/4" and 4 sheets 1/2". Shipping from Seattle to Eureka Montana was $310.92
I was very happy with the service.

Perhaps I'm prying too much - but would you mind divulging the prices of the various sheets (I assume they're 4'x8')?

thanks
Nikko
