Another question. I have a leaking o ring (1959 Johnson Super Seahorse 50hp). I have drained the lower unit, oil was milky so I know water got in. I want to replace the ring and make sure nothing got rusty in there. Is there an easy way to remove those darn screws, I cant get any loose and I dont want to strip them.

Thanks!!

Daron
Mahomet, IL

Re: Skeg Removal

Go buy your self an impact driver. They are cheep. I have been using the same cheep impact driver for pretty close to 30 years now. I think I paid $12. for it. I have replaced the bits a time or two. If you what to you can pay a snap-on price for one too, it's ok with me.

Re: Skeg Removal

Try an impact tool Daron. It's one of them ones ya' smack with a hammer. Does the job for me. Course....if the screws are really corroded in, you'll take a chance of popping the heads off. Soak them good in PB Blaster or a good penitrating oil for a good long time. Use heat as a last resort.

Try Sears. Or your local NAPA dealer.
