'92 Sea Ray 200 BR. No ski locker untill....I pulled the carpet and found plywood glassed over where it is/should be. Why would anyone opt to fill and abandon a ski locker? I can't seem to grasp any logic behind it.

After drilling a hole into it, there seems to be some kind of dense foam in there (from the shavings). I'm reluctant to cut a larger hole to see what's really going on. Ignorance is bliss, now I have to recarpet the whole boat b/c I thought I could easily find and retrim the locker. My curiosity wants to go further, but my brain says recover and it'll last you till the next boat.

Any thoughts?

... it may have been less work for who ever re-decked it last, or had plans on a different layout but gave up.

With many boats, the ski locker drain tube becomes incredibly clogged, and virtually impossible to unclog. Each new owner of the boat gives up. The ski locker fills up with water after rain, requiring bailing.

I can see someone giving up and filling it with foam and glassing it over. At least he filled it with foam.

During my search for a boat, I've found one boat with the ski locker covered over, and just last week, another one filled with water.

maybe the old ski locker got rotten around the edges and the plywood covering was just an easy fix instead of redoing it all

I had the same problem with my Searay. The ski lockers attract water that does not easily drain. the only soft spot in my entire floor was around the ski locker so I took it out and filled in with floor.
